New Elite i20 2018 CVT Petrol

Finally Hyundai’s has ditched the old 4Speed Torque Converter Automatic on the i20 and brought in the New Continuously Variable Transmission a.k.a CVT in the Facelifted Elite i20 2018. This is only available in the 1.2 Petrol variant and not on the excellent 1.4 Crdi diesel… sad!! But maybe the arrival of the Automatic Diesel Amaze from Honda will change things in the future.

Earlier i20 Automatic was available with a 1.4L 100bhp Petrol motor, but it didn’t set the sales chart on fire, because of the high price and the lackluster 4 speed gearbox. 4Speed tranny also meant poor fuel consumption.

The New Elite i20 with CVT transmission has started reaching the dealerships and is priced between Rs 7.04 lakh and Rs 8.16 lakh for the Magna and Asta variants respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi). Elite i20 is an excellent overall package with high equipment levels, build quality and fit n finish. The CVT is a welcome addition to the lineup, hopefully we shall a Diesel CVT / Automatic soon.

The Competition you ask? The Baleno from Maruti already has a CVT option paired to 1.2 K-series engine and Honda’s Jazz also has a CVT. Comparing the ex-showroom prices of all three, the i20 CVT comes out cheaper.

Lastly Kudos to Hyundai India for not going the AMT / AGS / Psuedo Automatic way.
